What is the significance of a "gutter" in a comic?
The space that you see between the comics is what comic "aficionados" have named "THE GUTTER". Even though it doesnt have the best name, the gutter plays a big role when it comes to the construction of a comic. It is "the gutters "magic and mystery that tend to be the heart of every comic. The space between the panels lead the reader to turn two pictures into one single idea.

I like the phrase "the gutters' 'magic & mystery' tend to be the hear of the comic." As an avid comic reader, I believe you have nailed it. Comics just wouldn't be the same unless the gutter continues to exist.
